Greener Duns celebrates national Clean Air Day with new No Idling signs
Greener Duns marked national Clean Air Day, last Thursday 16th June, by showcasing its new No Idling signs which will be going up in Duns shortly to encourage drivers of cars, vans, lorries and buses to switch their engines off when they are stationary. The signs, which were designed by Alex Watson of Greener Duns, have the full backing of both Scottish Borders Council and Duns Community Council, and an example of one was put up in Duns Town Square for the morning so that passers-by could have a look at it and give their feedback. Make do and Mend event May 16th
Make Do & Mend 7-9pm Monday May 16th Duns Volunteer Hall On Monday 16th May, Greener Duns held its first ever event. We wanted to find out what appetite there is in Duns for repairing and upcycling stuff. What we did Identified people already involved in repairing and the circular economy and asked them to join us. We did lots of planning, booked the venue, baked cakes and publicised via Facebook, Instagram, posters and fliers around the area, and a Radio Borders interview. Scottish Borders Council have received funding from the South of Scotland Enterprise for a feasibility study of a new 53km active travel route between the existing Tweedbank Railway Station and the new Reston Station Scottish Borders.

Car idlers to receive notice in Duns
Thanks to a campaign by Greener Duns, the town centre is to be given street signs asking drivers not to leave their engines running when parked. Scottish Borders Council has asked us to design “No idling” signs. We have produced four possible sign designs labelled A, B, C and D. The winning design, along with proposed locations for the signs, will be submitted to Duns Community Council for their approval. Post a comment to leave a choice.

Greener Duns recycling survey
Recycling survey finds confusion and waste Household recycling is still causing confusion in Berwickshire, decades after the service was first introduced in the Scottish Borders. The result is that rubbish is ending up as waste when it could be recycled. A survey last week by the environmental group Greener Duns found that almost 20% of householders are unsure about which everyday items can be put in their kerbside recycling bins. “We found that people know about recycling items such as paper, cardboard, tins and plastic bottles, but don’t know, for instance, that they can recycle plastic carrier bags or plastic film from food trays,” said Greener Duns chair,…

Greener Duns stall at AHFD Harvest Festival
On Saturday 25th September between 2.00pm and 5.00pm Greener Duns manned their stall at A Heart For Duns Harvest Festival. The event was staged by Keeping Duns Blooming Marvellous in partnership with Abundant Borders. The stall invited people to check their knowledge on which items could be recycled and were encouraged to put the samples in the relevant box. There was also a cardboard tree on which could be posted suggestions to aid sustainability. The event was well attended and refreshments were available.
